The Basics

Below is the basic information regarding materials at Emory and those only available via Interlibrary Loan.  If you have any questions, please talk with a librarian for clarification or see the links posted in the "For More Information" box above.

For materials at Emory:

  • Use Emory Library's catalog, discoverE, to find the book
  • Note the location - not all books are at MacMillan Law Library
  • Remember the loan periods (generally 28 days).
  • Always check your account
    • Materials are checked out to the individual - not the journal
    • Fines are real and are your responsibility
  • Best practice is to scan and save
    • Remember the journal shelves on the first floor of the library
    • Place stickers on all books placed on the journal shelves

For materials not available at Emory (Interlibrary Loan):

  • Use Emory Library's catalog, discoverE, to first see if the book is at Emory
  • If you can't find the book at Emory, try WorldCat
    • WorldCat will note all the libraries around the world who have the book and is a good double check on your Emory search
    • Once you have confirmed the book is not at Emory, you can use ILLiad to place an interlibrary loan request
  • Interlibrary loan requests may have different circulation policies
    • These differences will be noted to you when you retrieve the book from the Service Desk
    • Fines are real and are your responsbility
  • Best practice is to scan and save
    • Remember the journal shelves on the first floor of the library
    • Place stickers on all books placed on the journal shelves
